Project Overview

In partnership with South Australia’s Department for Correctional Services, Venergy Australia delivered a 173.34 kW solar power system at Yatala Labour Prison as part of a broader 400 kW solar initiative across multiple prison buildings. The project formed a strategic step in modernising state infrastructure with renewable energy while improving operational efficiency in high-security environments.

“Venergy’s professionalism, ability to work within high-security restrictions, and attention to safety and detail made this project a success. This installation represents our commitment to sustainable government infrastructure.”

The Challenge

Installing a solar system at a high-security prison presented complex logistical and safety challenges. Operations needed to proceed without disrupting prison routines or compromising site security. The system had to meet strict state construction standards while being integrated into the prison's existing infrastructure with minimal interruption.

The Solution

Venergy engineered and installed a turnkey 173.34 kW solar system at the Yatala site, using Trina Solar panels, Fronius inverters, and Clenergy EZ-Rack mounting. The project included full engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services, along with testing, commissioning, and compliance with all network approvals. System design and scheduling were optimised to align with the site’s operational demands and security constraints.

The Results

The solar installation at Yatala Labour Prison is expected to generate 298,257 kWh of clean energy annually. This will result in over $134,215 in electricity bill savings each year. The project significantly reduces the site's carbon emissions and enhances overall energy efficiency. Additionally, it strengthens the South Australian government’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure and environmental responsibility.
