Project Overview

In 2019, Venergy Solar partnered with Stockland to deliver a 650 kW commercial rooftop solar system at The Pines Shopping Centre in Doncaster East, VIC. As one of the region’s busiest retail hubs, the site was an ideal candidate for sustainable energy transformation. This project aligned with Stockland’s broader ESG objectives by reducing carbon emissions and operating costs—without disrupting tenants or the customer experience.

Featuring high-efficiency Trina Solar panels and advanced system design, the installation was delivered with precision and minimal downtime. The project has since become a benchmark for renewable energy integration in high-traffic commercial precincts.

“Partnering with Venergy Solar allowed us to further our sustainability goals while making solid financial sense. The Pines Shopping Centre is now a benchmark site in our portfolio for renewable integration.”

The Challenge

The Pines Shopping Centre posed several challenges, including high daytime foot traffic, multi-tenant coordination, and strict construction timeframes. Any downtime could disrupt retail activity, so the system had to be installed without interfering with daily operations. Stockland required the project to deliver immediate performance outcomes and enhance their leadership position in corporate sustainability.

The Solution

Venergy Solar engineered a custom 650 kW solar system tailored for peak performance during retail operating hours. The design maximized roof space while ensuring long-term durability and easy maintenance. Installation was executed during off-peak hours, with detailed planning to avoid any disruption to store access or public areas.

To support transparency and reporting, real-time monitoring and energy performance tracking were integrated—providing ongoing data insights that feed into Stockland’s sustainability reporting frameworks.

The Results

In its first year, the system is estimated to generate 1,186,250 kWh of clean energy, saving over $533,000 in electricity costs. This output offsets approximately 1,138 tonnes of CO₂ annually, equivalent to planting around 18,967 trees every year. The project sets a powerful precedent for other retail properties, proving that large-scale solar solutions can deliver strong returns with minimal business disruption.

With an estimated payback period of 4 year and 10 months, this project showcases how commercial solar installations can offer rapid ROI and long-term sustainability benefits.
