Project Overview

CherryHill Orchards, a family-owned company with over 80 years of experience growing premium cherries in Victoria's Yarra Valley, partnered with Venergy Solar to take a major step toward sustainability. With a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and future-focused farming, the company installed a 100 kW solar system at its Wandin East Orchard.

Known for its “Pick Your Own” experience and iconic Blossom Festival, CherryHill attracts thousands of visitors each season. This solar initiative not only supports the business's energy needs but also aligns with its mission to grow responsibly and sustainably in one of Australia’s most pristine agricultural regions.

"We’re proud to power our orchards more sustainably while continuing to offer incredible cherry-picking experiences. This investment supports our future and the environment."

The Challenge

With high operational demands across multiple orchards—especially during peak cherry season—CherryHill faced rising electricity costs from refrigeration, processing, irrigation, and on-site retail operations. The company sought a reliable, clean energy solution to reduce long-term energy bills and improve its carbon footprint without disrupting day-to-day operations.

The Solution

Venergy designed and installed a 100 kW solar PV system tailored to the Wandin East site's energy consumption patterns. The system was strategically placed to maximize solar exposure and output. Installed with minimal disruption to the public-facing farm, the solution supports CherryHill’s commercial energy needs and aligns with its environmentally conscious brand image.

The Results

The solar installation at CherryHill Orchards is expected to generate approximately 146,000 kWh of clean energy annually, significantly reducing reliance on grid electricity. This will result in annual electricity bill savings of around $65,700. In addition to the financial benefits, the system contributes to a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, improving the orchard’s overall environmental sustainability. The investment also enhances CherryHill’s brand reputation among eco-conscious consumers, reinforcing the company’s leadership in sustainable agritourism and its long-standing commitment to responsible farming practices.
