Project Overview

Nido Early School, an early childhood education provider inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, is known for creating nurturing, safe, and thoughtfully designed learning environments across Australia. With a strong focus on sustainability and community, Nido offers care for children from six weeks through to school age, integrating environmental responsibility into their day-to-day operations.

To further support their commitment to sustainability, Nido Early School partnered with Venergy Solar to install a 20 kW solar energy system at one of their South Australian centres. This investment into clean energy not only reduces the centre’s environmental impact but also delivers meaningful operational savings—supporting their mission to provide affordable, high-quality care and education.

“At Nido, sustainability is a core value reflected in everything we do—from the design of our spaces to how we engage children in caring for the planet. Installing solar was a natural step for us. It allows us to operate more efficiently while also modelling environmental responsibility for the children and families we serve.”

The Challenge

Operating a modern childcare facility involves high energy use—from temperature control to lighting and kitchen services. Rising energy costs were becoming a challenge, and Nido sought a solution that aligned with their values and reduced their long-term operational overheads.

The Solution

Venergy Solar designed and installed a tailored 20 kW rooftop solar system to meet the daytime operational demands of the centre. The system was configured for maximum output efficiency and integrated seamlessly with the facility’s existing infrastructure, requiring minimal disruption to daily operations.

The Results

Nido Early School now generates approximately 20,000 kWh of clean solar energy annually, significantly reducing its reliance on grid electricity. This transition has led to over $9,000 in electricity bill savings in the first year alone. The solar installation has enhanced the centre’s energy resilience, while also reinforcing Nido’s strong commitment to sustainability. Overall, the system supports long-term operational savings and positions Nido as a leader in environmental responsibility within the early education sector.
